Outdoor Events Tring's Own Apple Fayre
Every October residents celebrate the harvest season with Tring’s Own Apple Fayre. A programme of apple-based events which has grown from an Apple Day at the country’s only surviving First World War smallholding (comprising of an historic bungalow, orchard and nationally scarce wildlife) to a full month of events.

It aims to support our local environment, our town, its businesses and its people and celebrates living in Tring together.

The many events include an apple procession with Morris dancers; a parade of school scareworms (like scarecrows) and horse-drawn apple cart; Apple Day featuring a host of farmers market stalls, crafts, displays, games and much more; harvest festival at the parish church; Taste of Tring café; apple juicing; the ‘Appleation Trail’ where within the themed shop window displays there are clues to be found; apple yoga and meditation; a bake-off competition.

Exhibitions Unmaking the Modern: the work of Stanley Anderson
Following on from a successful show at the Royal Academy in 2015, curators Harry Heuser and Robert Meyrick from Aberystwyth University have developed a touring exhibition examining the work and world view of printmaker Stanley Anderson RA (1884–1966).

Anderson moved to Towersey near Thame during the Second World War and drew inspiration from the local area. Many of his subjects evoke a sense of nostalgia: craftsmen and farm workers carrying out tasks now performed by machinery, rural scenes that have turned into sprawling suburbia, urban architecture that has been destroyed by war.

Anderson fiercely opposed modernity and his art comments on the dramatic changes he observed in British society. He held these changes to be harmful to the human spirit: in the estrangement from nature, the loss of respect for manual work and the deterioration of communal life.

In exploring these key concerns, Unmaking the Modern follows two main themes: one concentrates on his critique of ‘progress’, the other on the ‘continuity and harmony of spirit’ that he sought and found beyond London.

"Following Your Own Star" with Janet Bolton
We are so pleased that Janet has agreed to run a day workshop for us after her talk to us in May of this year. This is how Janet describes her plans for the day; she will show us simple hand sewing techniques, give us ideas for letting a piece develop as it progresses and will encourage us to work directly with the materials to hand rather than using ideas worked out in other mediums. Sounds great!
Do come and join us for a sociable, relaxing and productive day.
