Bucks Skills Show 2017
What is it:
An experiential careers showcase where young people will be encouraged to experience industry sectors and ask questions about various career pathways.
Who is it aimed at:
All young people 14+ years old and their parents.
Why come:
For young people to gain impartial, varied exposure to as many careers and employers as possible – so that they may be inspired, become better informed, and ultimately make better decisions about the next stage of their education or career.
Guest speakers:
Listen to a range of specialist high profile employers who will give short presentations on careers in their industry. Sectors include gaining a motivational mindset, careers in science, cyber security, engineering and TV.
Exhibition space:
Try a range of interactive activitites and talk to employers from a range of sectors.

Bucks Skills Show 2017 - The Interactive Careers Fair
MISSION
Wondering how you can guide young people you know along an exciting, successful career path? The annual Bucks Skills Show is students’ local portal to the world of work, connecting them to a wide range of Buckinghamshire-based and international industries: from health and pharma to creative and media, cyber-security and engineering to hospitality and the armed forces.

STORY
Help young people discover a career they’ll love at this year’s Bucks Skills Show on Saturday 14 October 2017 at The Gateway, Aylesbury, from 9.30am to 3pm.

WHAT?
Bucks’ largest skills and careers event is an interactive experience for students led by local and international industries keen to tap the talent pipeline of the future.

WHO?
All young people 14+ years old, teachers, parents and carers.

WHY?
Bucks Skills Show opens young people’s eyes to the many different job opportunities available, giving them the chance to ask questions direct, get practically involved, be motivated by high profile guest speakers, and ultimately make better decisions about the next stage of their education or career.

High Wycombe -The Honey Pot
Bucks Genealogical Society. The Honey Pot.

During the 19th century almost every town and village in Buckinghamshire lost people to London,Birmingham and the north. However High Wycombe grew and grew why?
What was the secret of its attraction why were people coming and what were people doing there.
Mike Dewey, Wycombe historian, explains what brought people to his home town and indeed kept them there.

A musical history tour of the Beatles' year, 1963-1970, with the The Dung Beatles.

Exhibitions Adventures in Goldwork workshop
Discover a creative approach to goldwork embroidery. Hanny will show you how, by learning the fundamentals of couching, you can open up a world of possibilities to experiment and explore, whatever your stitching ability. This workshop gives stitchers of all abilities the opportunity to explore the possibilities of couching, building up throughout the day a series of hand embroidered samples and small pieces which can become a ‘tool kit’ of techniques to further your creativity and enhance your artwork.

Course information

This workshop gives stitchers of all abilities the opportunity to explore the possibilities of couching, building up throughout the day a series of hand embroidered samples and small pieces which can become a ‘tool kit’ of techniques to further your creativity and enhance your artwork.

What do I need to bring?

All materials and equipment will be provided. However, if you wish to bring any threads or plain materials you wish to experiment with, you are most welcome. Basic sewing kit – especially embroidery scissors – would be beneficial. Reading glasses or a magnifier are recommended as this course involves some intricate work.

Exhibitions Handbags and Gladrags workshop
An opportunity to create a unique piece of textile art with the added bonus of a practical bag for life.

Combining inspirations from the museum displays, the textile art of James Fox and your own personal creativity.

This friendly and informal workshop will involve design development and hand stitching at your own level. Suitable for all levels of stitching ability. Materials will be provided but please feel free to bring along fabric scraps, beads, buttons or other embellishments to complement your final piece.

Outdoor Events Harvest Festival
Family Harvest Event

Discover the fascinating traditions of our farming history. This popular annual harvest event provides a unique opportunity to explore the sights, sounds and smells of harvest past, with the Museum’s restored 1947 threshing machine working hard to process the year’s wheat crop – as long as the rain holds off!

Over the weekend the Museum’s Henton chapel will be home to a beautiful display of harvest produce, most of which has been grown in the Museum’s beautiful historic gardens.

Take part in some family friendly Harvest themed craft activities.

Standard admission prices apply. Free entry for Annual Pass holders.
