The Play Worker position is to assist with the delivery of play for children aged 4-12 years and to work as part of a team to deliver a varied programme of activities within a caring, stimulating, safe and secure environment.

Responsible To: Play Work Manager

Job Type: Part time

Hours: School holidays Mon-Fri (excluding Christmas and Bank Holidays) with various shifts between 8.00am and 5.45pm. Days and hours are flexible but not guaranteed.

February - half term

Easter - 2 weeks

May - half term

Summer - 4 weeks

October - half term

Pay Rate: £8.72 per hour

The Southcourt and Walton Court Community Project is a long-standing provider of play services for primary school children in the Southcourt and Walton Court areas of Aylesbury. In 2017, the play service was rebranded ‘Go Play’. Our holiday clubs take place at Oak Green School during school holidays. The Play Worker position is to assist with the delivery of play for children aged 4-12 years and to work as part of a team to deliver a varied programme of activities within a caring, stimulating, safe and secure environment. Our setting is Ofsted registered and was graded ‘Good’ in 2018.

Essential Requirements:

  • At least 17 years old
  • Minimum Level 2 play work or childcare qualification (or working towards)
  • Fun, passionate and enthusiastic for working with children
  • Able to interact well with both children and adults
  • Good understanding of safeguarding, health & safety, equal opportunities
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Prepared to work flexible hours during school holidays
  • Successful candidates must undertake an Enhanced DBS Check

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience of working with children 4-12 years
  • Good understanding of special educational needs
  • Paediatric First Aid certificate

Responsibilities:

  • To work as part of the staff team in running and supervising a wide variety of stimulating activities, complying with Health and Safety requirements and ensuring the implementation of the Project’s Equal Opportunities Policy at all times.
  • To attend occasional staff meetings.
  • To maintain good communication with parents, carers and guardians.
  • To provide First Aid when necessary and keep written records of any incidents or accidents which parents should be informed of and sign in the book.
  • To implement and follow all policies and procedures necessary for the safety of children and staff.
  • To undertake relevant training as deemed necessary.
  • To monitor the condition of the premises and equipment, and ensure the premises are used in consideration for other users and report to Play Work Manager.
  • To undertake other duties as may become necessary and agreed with the Play Work Manager.
  • To inform the Play Work Manager by 7:30 am if you are unable to attend any session.
  • To contact the Play Work Manager with work availability dates 4-6 weeks before each holiday club.
