Team Leader - Children's Residential School

MacIntyre Care

Could you mentor a team whilst supporting children and young people with learning disabilities? Then maybe it's time for the next stage of your career.. We are looking for full time Team Leaders to join the team at the MacIntyre School in Wingrave, which is located between Leighton Buzzard and Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. This is a school where children and young people live and learn, who are aged between 11-19 years.

You'll be working in one of the residential houses at the school with your team of senior support and support workers and the children who live here. Your role will be one of influencing and role modelling staff practice within the home; working alongside your colleagues you will be supporting the children and young people in all aspects of their lives. You and your team will make sure they are able to take part in community activities, enjoy their hobbies and interests, and lead a life that is fun, engaging and meaningful to them. This role is 37.5 hours per week.

These young people have severe learning disabilities, autism and complex needs and each one has their own individual support plan. They may at times show behaviours of concern but we will support you to understand why this may be happening and help you to be able to respond to this in the best way for the child. Due to needs of some of the children and young people that come to our school there is also a requirement to provide assistance with personal care.

As Team Leader, you will be responsible for the day to day running of the house you work in. You'll work closely with the staff team, carrying out supervisions as needed. You'll encourage them and identify training needs, whether formal or by way of day-to-day coaching and reflection. You will act as a role model for excellent practice, promoting a positive image of MacIntyre and upholding our values along the way.

About you

This is a great step up if you have experience as a care worker, healthcare assistant, ideally already with some senior responsibilities or similar. You will be leading a team so evidence of how you have done this within a care setting would be required. Ideally you will have worked with people who have learning disabilities, but it could also be a good transition if you have supported other vulnerable people.

We're looking for people with initiative and warmth, who can thrive in a constantly changing environment, are confident yet know when to ask for advice, and can work as part of a close-knit team. We are looking for people who are passionate about making a difference for children and young people with disabilities, and who are able to understand, role model and get the best from the staff they work with. If this sounds like you, and you're willing to learn, you probably have exactly the qualities our students need. We can teach you the rest.

It is essential you have a full driving licence as you will be asked to drive service vehicles transporting the young people to and from their school. You must also hold a Level 3 Diploma in working with CYP.

You need to be able to work shifts including early and lates (evenings), weekends, bank holidays and occasional sleep-ins when required.
