Homeless Aylesbury: Over 200 Affected In Last Year

From sleeping rough to sofa surfing, over 200 people have struggled with homelessness in Aylesbury in the last year.

That figure will probably shock you and it surprised us, too. 

Aylesbury Homeless Action Group have been telling us about the work they do and how it's much more than someone begging or using their night shelter.

We've also heard from Chris McEvoy, who used to sleep on Aylesbury's streets. He features in our report and you can grab his full interview below as well.

So we've been out and about with Karen Warner from AHAG, looking at the complicated issue. Hear Dan's report below:

If you want to find out more and get more advice, here's a selection of places you can get help:

  • If you're fleeing domestic violence or have children, you should contact AVDC on 01296 585858.
  • AHAG will see any person over the age of 18 years of age. Their Hub drop-in is on a Monday and Wednesday from 12-2pm at Walton Hall. The address for the Hub is Walton Hall, Walton Street, Aylesbury HP21 7QX.
  • AHAG can also be contacted on 01296 435026 during office hours or via e-mail enquiries.ahag@yahoo.co.uk . For more information their website is www.ahag.org.uk.
  • If you want to report a rough sleeper or who is rough sleeping, you can use the streetlink website. The email is www.streetlink.org.uk
  • If you're under the age of 18 years, AHAG suggests initially contacting AVDC. Also Youth Concern assist with housing and support as well as providing a service called Nightstop which provides emergency housing with a family for 3 nights.
