Former Gambling Addict Calls For Better Support

An Aylesbury man, who had a 30-year gambling addiction, is calling on other addicts and their families to share their experiences.

Ian Bartlett wants to show the government that more support's needed for the victims of gambling - like friends and family members.

He says it's a growing problem:

"In 2007, 257,000 gambling ads on television. In 2013, there were 1.6 million.

"I'll give you one more astonishing statistic. In 2009 there were 109,000 children who went into a betting shop. In 2013, that rose to 588,000."

Ian is trying to use his experiences, which include brushes with the law, to encourage more people to come froward and add to his campaign to get more gambling support.

He added:

"I started by using my wages on gambling, but within a very short period of time, I was then stealing to feed the addiction of gambling.

"The impact it had on me was the loss of relationships, family break-down, debt and the victims of crime, the people I stole off."
