Councillor 'Furious' Over AVDC's HS2 Road Plans

It's been revealed AVDC want to build a relief road for HS2 construction traffic through part of Aylesbury - but the man representing the area wasn't told.

Fairford Leys Councillor Steven Lambert's told us he's furious that the council didn't tell him just weeks before they both stand in front of Westminster's HS2 committee:

"Six weeks before we get to Parliament, I find that Aylesbury Vale District Council have got a plan to put a haul road in right beside the Willows estate where we had flooding last year.

"So me and my ward colleagues are out there now, talking to residents saying 'what do you think?'

"Hopefully we'll be able to represent them properly, but I'm going to have to change my petition now and I'll have to explain to parliament why I didn't know about what AVDC, another petitioner, is saying about mitigation in my ward."

steven_lambert.jpgThe road would get HS2 to pay for a dual carriageway from Stoke Mandeville, past Walton Court, Ellen Road to the roundabout at Coldharbour Way.

It would be used to take spoil and construction materials, before becoming a road for Aylesbury when the line is completed.

At the moment, it wouldn't be connected to any other new roads.

But Steven said he only found out at a briefing at Bucks County Council:

"I was absolutely gobsmacked that I'm a member of a council who took the view that I, as the local member, shouldn't know anything about a major development in my ward.

"The arrogance of it has shocked the life out of me."

AVDC's leader told Steven he 'didn't know' why he hadn't been told and would look into it.
