Council Leaders Condemn HS2's Lack Of Community Engagement

The leaders of five Buckinghamshire councils are condemning HS2 Limited over their lack of community engagement in the county.

The have written to the company claiming they are failing to talk to residents in the area.

There's four pilot community events in and around Birmingham and two in Euston before Christmas.

In their letter to HS2 the Leaders have said:

"On behalf of our local residents we are astounded that HS2 has no plans to hold community engagement events of any description in Buckinghamshire despite the fact that Additional Provision 4 is due to be published next month and will result in significant changes for many parts of Buckinghamshire.

"This is just not acceptable. Our communities are some of the worst affected by this rail line and the very least they deserve is the opportunity to see what is coming their way.

"This continues HS2 Limited's track record of selective community engagement where although it initially set up Community Forum meetings  - at least to inform and engage - once all their 'boxes' were ticked - they withdrew, and fast. Indeed for the past year HS2 Limited has failed to engage with our communities on what their plans are; what's changing and how many 100's of lorries will be unleashed on the county's roads."

A HS2 spokesperson said they will be holding information events in Buckinghamshire in October and November and they will publicise these dates shortly. They also add they will be writing back to the councils to let them know the dates of the events in their area.
