Last Day Of East West Rail Consultation

Winslow Station plans

Published by the Mix96 News Team at 10:14am 16th October 2015

Today's your last chance to have a say on East West Rail plans for Buckinghamshire.

The group's survey on the line between Bicester, Winslow, Aylesbury and Milton Keynes closes later.

The East West Rail Western Section Phase 2 project is part of East West Rail which aims to establish a strategic railway connecting East Anglia with Central, Southern and Western England.

It has been promoted and developed since 1995 by the East West Rail Consortium, a group of local authorities and strategic partners.

On Network Rail's website, they explain why they're consulting the public at the moment:

Consultation is an important part of the way we develop our plans to improve the railway.

We will need to acquire some land on which to construct and operate the line. In addition, the work to reintroduce passenger and freight services between Bedford and Bicester and between Milton Keynes and London via Aylesbury involves reconstructing and upgrading disused and underused sections of track and signalling and upgrading other sections of the line.

As part of the development of the route we are considering how to make the reinstated railway safer for everyone. With this in mind we have been looking at footpath, road and farm crossings.

In order to obtain the necessary powers to be able to deliver this improvement, we will be required to make an application for a Transport and Works Act Order to the Secretary of State for Transport.  All feedback will be considered, and captured within a consultation report that will be submitted as part of the application.
