Call For Better Reporting Of Suspected Child Abuse Presented In Westminster

Published by the Mix96 News Team at 5:48am 7th December 2015.

A petition started in Buckinghamshire, calling on the government to create new laws on reporting child abuse, has been presented in Westminster.

It's been signed over 200,000 times and asks for it to be a legal requirement for people like teachers to report anything suspicious about kids in their care.

At the moment, there's not always a legal reason for people in charge of looking after children to report worries to places like Children's Services.

MP Cheryl Gillan presented it - she says it's something that needs to happen:

"This is a real prospect of tryign to improve the environment in and around our children, to make sure that any suspicions are reported to an independent body or person.

"And failure to inform on those suspicions on reasonable grounds should be made a criminal offence."

The case was presented on behalf of Mandate Now and the petition handed to Downing Street.

Because of the 200k+ signatures, the Government has to respond in some way.
