Police Urge Aylesbury Sex Assault Victim To Come Forward

Thames Valley Police is appealing for a victim of a potential sexual assault in Aylesbury to contact police.

At about 5am on New Year's Day, a witness saw a man approach a woman on the Iron Bridge.

The man briefly spoke to the victim before sexually assaulting her over her clothing.

The victim, a woman described as white, in her early twenties, wearing a patterned dress and jacket, broke away from the offender and left the location.

Officers would like to remind the public that victims of sexual offences receive lifelong anonymity, therefore if you believe you are the victim or might know who the victim is please call police on 101 rather than publishing the victim’s name or details on social media.

A 21-year-old man from Aylesbury has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and released on police bail until 13 February.

Investigating officer, PC Cat Cameron of the response team based at Aylesbury police station, said: “Officers are working to establish the circumstances of exactly what happened during this incident. Although we are investigating the incident as a sexual assault we are keeping an open mind until we have spoken to the victim.

“The offence was witnessed and the police were called to the scene however the victim had already left the area.

“I would like to ask the victim to contact Thames Valley Police so that we can check on her welfare and make sure she has the full level of support.

“Anyone with any details about the incident should contact police via 101. Alternatively, if you don’t want to speak directly to the police, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to court.”
