Wendover Is 'Fed Up' Of Being 'Ignored' By HS2

People in Wendover are fed up and possibly the worst-treated town when it comes to HS2.

That's from campaigners there, who say the latest lot of mitigation from HS2 Limited is great for South Bucks and great for Aylesbury, but not them.

Sound barriers will be put up, but they're not what was asked for.

Ron Peterson chairs the Wendover HS2 group and says they'll never stop fighting:

"We need to make the very best case we can, we've learned some lessons about how to do that in the process that we followed within the House of Commons.

"So we should be able to put an even stronger case to the House of Lords."

His message to people in Wendover was to not give up hope.

The evidence presented by the local community to the Select Committee over the past six months covered wide ranging impacts on the local area on hydrogeology, noise, transport disruption and damage to local business, as well as a gross visual impact on the Chilterns AONB.

The group say that HS2 Ltd. haven't adequately addressed these issues.

The community's case was that an extended tunnel would solve virtually all of the above issues at little additional cost; in response, HS2 Ltd. issued a string of inflated cost estimates, unsupported by any evidence.

In concert, virtually every governmental body in the Chilterns AONB area requested that HS2 Ltd. ask their contractors for a fully bored tunnel be priced as an alternative to the HS2 Ltd. above-ground scheme.

This request for an independent pricing has been rejected by The Chief Executive of HS2.

The community are now following up the HS2 Action Alliance AARHUS challenge and are considering taking their case back to the European courts.
