Four Arrests At High Wycombe Demonstrations

Thames Valley Police

Published by the Mix96 News Team at 8:54am 10th April 2016.

Police say four arrests were made during Saturday's demonstrations in High Wycombe, but they're pleased they passed off peacefully.

Protestors from the EDL met at the railway station and travelled on foot to Frogmoor where speeches took place just after 2pm.

Counter protests also took place in the town centre.

In total there were approximately 300 people from various groups who took part in the demonstrations.

All of the EDL protestors have now left the area. Road closures which were in place in the area have all been reopened.

A considerable number of police officers were visible during the demonstrations as part of a comprehensive policing operation.

Four arrests were made in total in connection with the operation. Three people were arrested on suspicion of public order offences and one person was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage. All are currently in custody.

Ch Insp Rebecca Mears, Deputy LPA commander for Wycombe, said:

“I am pleased to say that the demonstrations in High Wycombe today were peaceful and few arrests were made.

“The success of the operation is, in no small part, down to the excellent partnership work before and during the event between the police, other agencies and representatives of our communities.

“Those who were present held a peaceful protest and our officers liaised closely with them to help to facilitate this.

“I would like to thank people in the local community who were affected by the demonstrations, for their co-operation and patience today and their continued support.”
