Charity Could Be Another HS2 Victim

Charity Could Be Another HS2 Victim

HS2 isn't just threatening homes, it's threatening charities in Buckinghamshire, too.

That's according to one group based in Stoke Mandeville - Animal Antiks.

They help young people with special needs get ready for work using animals, but their site sits right by where the track would be.

It's making everything a bit uncertain for co-founders Sarah Kettlety and Katrina Greig-Young.

Sarah said:

“We’ve worked hard for three years building Animal Antiks, a charity that supports
special young people, growing their confidence and supporting their development to
make them ready for the world of work. We cannot let that fail.”

They have also won the support of local Councils who have taken up their case in
petitions to the House of Lords.

The Councils state they are concerned “that the railway will have major effects on small businesses, undermining their ongoing viability and making future planning nigh on impossible.”

Katrina added:

“Our current site in Stoke Mandeville is ideal – it’s on a frequent bus
route and close to the railway station – so travel training can be part of the young
people’s programme.

"It would be ideal if we could either stay where we are or find
somewhere equally well located.”

Animal Antiks’ track record is impressive, having helped a number of autistic young people fulfil their potential, and they plan to expand their programme, giving clients the chance to start, grow and manage different enterprises with the help of the animals.

The charity is also an important supplier for the County Council, offering key services for looked after children and young people.

Sarah’s final plea:

“We are asking for your help to keep Animal Antiks going, either here or maybe somewhere new.

"We offer a unique form of training that this train cannot derail.”
