Comments On 500 Bus Service Put To Arriva

We recently we ran a story on how the number 50 service from Halton to Aylesbury was overcrowded.

As a result Arriva added another bus to that route, but a number of you commented on our website as well as our Facebook page that the 500 service through Aston Clinton was also unreliable.

From our website:

The 500 service through Aston Clinton is horribly unreliable. Once again this morning it just did not show up. Heaps of children waiting alongside a very busy London Road for at least half an hour.

We put it to Arriva, who declined an interview but gave us this statement.

Haven just moved back to the area, my son started taking the 500 service from Aston Clinton to Tring. Last week the 0746 didn't turn up at all on one day and also the same yesterday. I have filled out the useless form online as the number for customer service didn't work. This is a disgusting service and if I was working my son would have ended up getting a detention for being in school late as the bus that did turn up would have given him 5 minutes to walk half a mile the other end. Livid.
And from our Facebook page:

We put the comments to Arriva, who declined an interview, but provided this statement:

Richard Lakin, Arriva spokesman, said:

'We apologise to passengers who have experienced delays on the 500 route. We run 12 buses on this busy route (eight from Hemel Hempstead and four from Aylesbury depots) and have experienced some late running. We have been recruiting more drivers and we're continuing to invest and working hard to address our passengers' concerns.'
