Parishes meet to talk one council idea

Aylesbury Vale's parish councils have been asked what they would like to see when it comes to the furure of our councils.

AVDC met with leaders earlier this week, as part of their plan to become a unitary council for the Vale.

They say that, as they're looking at being the only main council, the Parishes' views matter, as they're an important part of delivering council services.

Feedback from the meeting, alongside engagement from other key stakeholders, will be used to complete the report commissioned by Bucks' district councils into the options for modernising local government.

Cllr Neil Blake and Andrew Grant, AVDC's Leader and Chief Executive, gave a presentation detailing the key messages of the district councils' report and then answered a range questions from parishes.

Cllr Blake said:

"Stakeholder engagement is the final stage in completing our report into modernising local government.

"It was fantastic to see so many parishes in attendance last night and their feedback will be vital in shaping our final proposal.

"If Aylesbury Vale is to go unitary then its parishes must have their say. Modernising local government is no simple reorganisation and rushing through a quick fix is a recipe for failure.

"Such is the importance of this issue we have to make sure we make the right change, not the simplest, and from talking to parishes it's encouraging that many share our views".

Buckinghamshire's four district councils are all currently engaging with key stakeholders on the options for modernising local government in the county.

Once this engagement is finalised it will be incorporated into the districts' overall report.
