Aylesbury volunteers live on £1 a day of food for charity

Employees at a business based in Aylesbury have taken on a unique challenge to raise money and awareness for Aylesbury's food bank.

Volunteers from ESRI UK on Walton Street are challenging themselves to go 5 days spending no more than £1 a day on food, and give the remaining money they would have spent to the food bank.

The unusual challenge aims to raise money for the food bank as well as awareness of what they do, and solidarity with those who use it.

Coordinator of the Aylesbury Food bank Heather Joy-Garett said:

"We're fortunate that all the food we have here is donated, so when we give three days food, it's much more than £1 a day's worth of food.

But the volunteers just felt that this was a good way of showing solidarity, highlighting the issue and raising us some money.

ESRI UK are very good supporters of the food bank, in fact their staff come in once a fortnight to pack boxes or do anything else we need.

The challenge is going to be exceptionally difficult. I haven't had any feedback yet but I'm suspecting they'll probably be making a lot of soup to get through the week!"
