Sport and dance sessions for adults with disabilities

New sport and dance sessions are on offer around Buckinghamshire for adults with learning disabilities.

Qualified coaches in High Wycombe, Amersham, Chesham, Aylesbury and Bletchley will host sessions for a number of different sports and activities.

The first two sessions are free, after that the cost varies but it's never more than £5 per person.

The coaches are employed and trained by Leap, the Sport and Activity Partnership for Bucks & Milton Keynes - which aims to improve people's health and fitness by increasing participation in sport.

Chris Gregory, Senior Development Manager at Leap, said:

"Any adult over 16 with a learning disability is welcome to attend these, and it's our hope that as many people as possible come and try out a session. It doesn't matter whether you are good or not at sport because all activities can be adapted to your needs and abilities, and you can bring along your carer if you wish.

"Each session will be slightly different to keep it fun and interesting and they mostly run all the year around, so what have you got to lose by trying one out?"

The sessions

  • Monday - football at Wycombe Sports Centre Sports Hall, 11am to noon, in partnership with Wycombe Wanderers Sport & Education Trust;
  • Tuesday - multi-sports at both Chesham Leisure Centre Sports Hall, 10.30am-11.30am, and Stoke Mandeville Stadium, Aylesbury, 7pm-8pm;
  • Wednesday - dance at Aqua Vale Dance Studio, Aylesbury, 12.30pm to 1.30pm;
  • Thursday - dance at Wycombe Sports Centre, 11am to 12noon; multi-sports outdoor activities, including fitness exercises and Nordic walking, at Amersham's King George V Playing Fields, 2-3pm;
  • Friday - multi-sports at Bletchley Leisure Centre, 11-12noon, in partnership with MK Dons Sport and Education Trust.
