London-Brighton cycle & back: Man's latest charity challenge

A man from Buckinghamshire's doing the London to Brighton cycle ride... and back again, all for charity today.

Guy Stapleford is actually in the middle of a whole load of challenges for the Make a Wish charity, who help seriously ill children.

He says it's not sure he's that prepared for today:

"Its difficult, because I'm obviously training for a marathon and half-marathons, so there's a lot of running and it's balancing the running and the cycling.

"That said, I'll do it.

"I don't quit, so I will do it, so it'll just be what shape I'm in after. Nothing that an ice pack and a cold beer won't solve, I'm sure."

Guy's Miles for Wishes London to Brighton (and back) challenge will see him initially competing the classic London to Brighton route, starting at Clapham Common.

Rather than stopping at Brighton Beach, Guy will turn around at cycle an additional 90 miles to get back to his home in Great Kimble, Buckinghamshire - all completely unsupported.

Guy said:

"London to Brighton has been something I've wanted to do for a while, it's obviously a great challenge on its own but the Miles for Wishes challenges are all about really pushing myself to the limit physically and mentally in aid of a great cause."

Miles for Wishes

This event is one in a series of challenges Guy is taking on this year as part of his Miles for Wishes challenge.

The challenges includes a gruelling 24 hour 100km walk, a full and half marathons, as well as cycling from John O'Groats to Land's End later in the year.

The challenges will see him run, walk, swim and cycle approximately 2,000 miles in aid of Make-A-Wish UK by the end of the year

Guy added:

"Make-A-Wish is an incredible Charity, they give hope and joy to children and young people facing life threatening illnesses, so I hope that the money we raise can make a difference to as many families as possible.

"I'm dedicating the challenges in June to wish child Milla, who sadly passed away 6 months ago. Milla, and her father Tony Frobisher who has undertaken his own cycling challenges, are so inspiring and their story reminds me why I am putting myself through this. "
