A mum from Wendover who invented something to stop her children sucking their thumbs is up for an award tonight, after turning the idea into a business.

Jo Bates (pictured on the left) started her business Thumbsie four years ago, which sells thumb and finger guards to ween kids of their childhood habit.

Now she's a finalist of the UK's Best Business Women Awards - which as the name suggests is about 'recognising great women in the business community'.

The ceremony is today, with Jo in the Best Online Business category.

Jo said she spent many nights putting together the application:

"It was all based on business plans, marketing, financial plans; you had to submit any Google Reviews and Facebook Reviews you'd had. It was about 3000 - 4000 words in total that you had to fill in to apply."

"When I first started my business I always thought it was a good idea. It's just been brilliant to see it grow and grow, and I've had a lot of help from local businesses with my marketing to help it grow into what it is. It's extremely rewarding."
