Tony Hadley helps kick-start Aylesbury Poppy Appeal

War Memorial - Remembrance

8:02am 28th October 2017

Aylesbury's poppy appeal gets underway today, thanks to a special guest.

Tony Hadley is helping with the launch ceremony for the Royal British Legion's annual collection.

The singer performing at the ceremony in Friars Square this morning at 10.30am.

There will be a short service and a two-minute silence at 11am.

Barbara Grant is the Chair of the Legion here.

She told us they want to build on last year:

"Last year was our record year and we actually collected £85,500.

"That is just Aylesbury town centre and the schools, who are brilliant.

"The Sea Cadets and supermarkets get involved, too."

As usual, there will be a stand in Friars Square up to and including Remembrance Day.

Poppy Appeal boxes will also appear in shops and other public places across the area.

Barbara told us where the money goes:

"It is used on serving members that need help, past members who need help and their families.

"Certainly with people who have been killed or injured, their families are at home and need support."
