HS2 could lead to new family attraction for Aylesbury

5:48am 7th November 2017

A farm in Stoke Mandeville set to be affected by HS2 could have a new lease of life, thanks to something called Project Phoenix.

Moat Farm, which supplies Weetabix, will have the trainline go straight through it, leaving parts unsuitable for farming.

So an option being looked at is a farm park family attraction, showing the link between the farm and food.

Those behind it say it'll be able to use the new roads HS2 have promised around the village and be an important facility for Aylesbury.

There will be a range of attractions including modern animal farming gallery, farm machines exhibition barn and workshop, kitchen and market garden, fish farm and aquaponics, play barn and farm education centre, educational theatre barn, natural outdoor play and sensory trail.

Nick Laister, Operational Director with RPS Planning & Development, which is preparing the planning application, says:

"The HS2 development will sever this well-established farm just outside Stoke Mandeville, with its historical tie as a well-respected grain supplier to Weetabix, leaving areas that are no longer viable for farming.

"Project Phoenix will ensure that the land remains an active part of this family-run farm in a way that can make use of the new road infrastructure that is being developed as part of the HS2 project.

"With the significant planned growth in the population of Aylesbury, it is considered that a farm-based visitor attraction will provide an important community and educational facility, while keeping much of the land open and free from development. We very much hope that it will be welcomed."

The exhibition will be held at Stoke Mandeville Community Centre, Eskdale Road, Stoke Mandeville, Aylesbury, HP22 5UJ on 13th November 2017 between 1pm and 8pm.

Nick adds:

"The proposed plans will be on display and members of the Project Team will be on hand to answer any questions.

"There will also be an opportunity to leave feedback on the proposals."
