Northchurch man sentenced after planning to rape schoolgirl

A man from Northchurch has been jailed for 14 years after being found guilty of planning to rape a schoolgirl.

28 year old Thomas Perry, of Bell Lane, was part of a paedophile network operating throughout Hertfordshire.

At his trial at the end of last year, on-line chat messages showed he was concerned the victim might recognise him at the Tesco Express in Berkhamsted - where he worked.

While sentencing him on Friday (16/2), Judge Michael Kay QC sitting at Luton crown court told Perry;

"Because you were working in the locality there was a need to to protect your identity."

"The conversation was that the girl would be taken to a garage, plied with alcohol there was talk of restraints being used, there was talk of blind folding her and gagging her."

"What was being discussed was the horrific rape of this girl."

He said that although Perry hadn't carried out the rape, he had no doubt there was an intention to commit the offence.

As well as his prison term, Perry's name will go on the sex offenders registers for life and he'll be the subject of a sexual harm prevention order.

Perry was the seventh man to be sentenced after a police investigation uncovered the paedophile ring led by Michael Emerton, also from Berkhamsted.

Emerton is currently serving nine life sentences for a string of offences including four charges of raping a child, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and conspiring with other men to rape a child.
