The Principal of an Aylesbury school says she wants to set the record straight over reports about their sixth form closing.

The Mandeville School have decided to not run any A Level or BTEC courses next year, because of fewer applications.

Andria Hanham told us they're taking the chance to review what they do:

"Revise our curriculum, look at subjects which students may want to do that we don't offer, put staffing in place accordingly, train staff up accordingly.

"Basically, have a complete re-boot of the Sixth Form, so that we have a Sixth Form that is viable."

The Principal felt that other reports on the decision may have been taken as that the department was permanently going, following another tough Oftsed inspection.

But Andria told us they would not have taken such a decision.

She added:

"The Sixth Form for me is the flagship and we want it to be better than it has been and I think giving the staff, the leadership, that year, that time to strategically plan will give us really fantastic opportunities to do everything that we want to do."

They are already talking to current Year 10s about what will be on offer for them as they go into further education.

All current year 11s have somewhere to study this September, be that other schools in Aylesbury or college.
