Video footage of when Aylesbury's David Bowie statue was vandalised has been released.

It shows what appears to be a man at around 12:45am approaching the statue with a spray can in his hand.

He seems to linger for a while before starting to spray 'RIP DB' on the wall.

The man then sprays the statue a little, before writing his main message of 'Feed the homeless first' on the floor.

The vandal then sprays another 'RIP DB' before spraying some more paint on the statue and wall.

The whole incident lasts approximately three minutes.

The statue was unveiled in front of hundreds of people on Sunday. The vandalism is currently being cleaned, with the statue expected to have been returned to it's original state by tomorrow.

No public money was used in creating or installing it.

Music promoter and the man behind the statue David Stopps said:

"I was very disappointed that this has happened, but when I went to see it; it could have been a lot worse. We're busy cleaning it up now.

"The paint was on the statue, the wall behind and on the pavement. It was about the homeless - but I do quite a lot for the homeless, which is the irony of the whole thing."
