Watermead suffering from 'six months of vandalism'

5:49am 20th April 2018

Vandals have been targeting Watermead in Aylesbury for six months.

That's according to the Parish Council there, who say it's not just the crematorium which has been damaged.

Sue Severn, the Chair - told us community spaces and allotments have been affected:

"We've recently had a dog bin, which was installed two weeks ago, set fire to.

"The memorial garden fencing has been damaged on several occasions, the allotment sheds and greenhouses have been damaged and tools stolen.

"Several cars have also had a lot of cars vandalised."

She said Watermead is a tight-knit community and wants anyone who can help to come forward.

They have already had people with CCTV come forward and say they have seen people acting suspiciously.

Sue added:

"What has caused it, we don't know and the police are very short of resources.

"We have great admiration and support for them, but we wish they could send us a few more police officers to be patrolling the villages."

Even while the Parish Council was discussing the problem, there was further wanton vandalism on Watermead last night when a "gate " at the side of the main spine road bearing a " Watermead" sign was ripped out of the ground and smashed. It is sad that Westerleigh have twice chosen to link damage to their proposed crematorium to the legitimate protest against it by residents when the village as a whole has suffered repeated attacks. We suspect that the same small group of vandals is involved in all of these episodes and have called on the police to step up their presence in the area. We used to have our own PCSO and at that time there was very little crime.
