A41 & A418 could be key to new Aylesbury Vale 'expressway'

Expressway route options

6:09am 23rd April 2018

A new road across Aylesbury Vale could be the chance to finish off an Aylesbury ring-road.

That's according to AVDC, who've come up with their own version of the OxCam Expressway, which would use the A41 from Bicester and A418 to Leighton Buzzard.

At the moment, the government has three broad 'corridors' for where the route could be.

One which goes via Buckingham, one via Winslow and one around the bottom/east of Aylesbury.

Leader Neil Blake told us why they've come up with their own route, over the three government options:

"It's not just a question of getting traffic from A to B quickly.

"It's about also providing local connectivity and also accommodating the housing growth that we know is going to happen in Aylesbury Vale in years to come."

The issue was discussed at the council's cabinet last week, with members not being able to all agree on a preferred corridor.

Neil told us that's why they feel this 'hybrid' could work.

"I think we've already got routes going on on the eastern side and southern side of Aylesbury, there's the potential for a western route going up the Oxford Road and if you have an expressway that comes across to the north of Aylesbury, you've then got routes all around the town.

"So people won';t have to come into Aylesbury, to go out of Aylesbury."

A consultation with interested parties, like councils, is going on at the moment.

It's expected the public will get a say at a later stage.
