Delivery driver takes dog from home near Tring

A dog which went missing from near Tring was actually taken by a delivery driver.

Wilma was gone for several days before finally being reunited with her family.

The community around Marsworth got involved in the search after her owner, Richard Guttfield, discovered she had disappeared last Friday.

He'd got home and thought it strange when only Wilma's brother Fred appeared.

Richard said:

"It was like someone flicked a switch and all of a sudden, nothing else mattered.

"I just had to find Wilma, I was just terrified that she had potentially gone."

Wilma is now safely back home

Just beforehand, a delivery of dog food from Amazon had arrived.

Richard got in touch with the company over the coming days, hoping the driver had seen something.

Eventually, a member of staff at Amazon in Hemel Hempstead responded.

Richard told us more:

"He called me and he said 'this is my top priority for the day'.

"He was going to look at the tracking software to see if there were any unusual movements and then a couple of hours later her called and said 'can you describe your dog'.

"So I did and he said 'I have her here. She's safe and welll and I'm bringing her home to you now."

A spokesperson for Amazon said:

"This is inexcusable and does not reflect the high standards we have for our delivery partners-we take these matters seriously and this individual is no longer delivering Amazon packages for the independent delivery service provider."

Wilma's owner Richard told us he's just grateful to have her back and says she means a lot to him:

"July last year, my sister was unfortunate to have a cancer scare.

"She was really down in the dumps and my other sister, who had these puppies, said to us, come and have a look at them and when we saw them my sister's face lit up.

"There and then we knew we had to have one each."

Richard added that all he wants now is for his friend James' dog Sprocket, who is also missing, to come home.
