Aylesbury MP urges us to give views on Bucks unitary

There are just a few weeks left to have a say on the two options.

Aylesbury MP urges us to give views on Bucks unitary

Having one big council for all of Bucks isn't necessarily something to be worried about, according to Aylesbury's MP.

David Lidington told us many public bodies, like the NHS, work across county areas and it works.

The other option is for a north/south split and those behind that proposal have said a county-wide approach wouldn't match the differing needs of different communities.

The MP said:

"If you look at the health service locally, the two commissioning groups for north and for south Bucks have actually decided to confederate together, because they think they will have more impact in planning for health spending across Buckinghamshire if they are working as a single team."

David added that the current system is just outdated and doesn't work, highlighting waste as one example where the districts collect, but the county council dispose of it.

Back in March, Sajid Javid said he was 'minded to' approve the one-council option.

But there is a public consultation still going on on both options.

Mr. Lidington says it's really important that we have a say:

"None of these solutions is perfect, no system of human organisation is.

"But it's an on-balance decision. I think it is important that people, wherever they come from in Bucks, make their views known."

Members of the public have until May 25 to share their views with Government by emailing sajid.javid@communities.gsi.gov.uk
