Celebrations are in order at the Green Ridge Primary Academy in Aylesbury.

Cinzia Imbriano, a teacher at the school, has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Pearson Teaching Awards for 'Best New Teacher of the Year 2018'.

There were hundreds of entries and Miss Imbriano is one of five teacher selected from up and down the country.

We spoke to Headteacher Aaron Wanford about her achievement:

"We are delighted that Cinzia has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Pearson Best New Teacher of the Year 2018.

"This is such wonderful recognition of how  incredibly hard Miss. Imbriano works to ensure the children in her  class are happy, enjoy their learning and make fantastic progress; we have seen how far the children have come since September, and this is down to the determination and hard work of Miss. Imbriano in all that she strives for with the class.

"It must be said that joining a new school such as Green Ridge is no 'easy option' for any teacher, setting up systems and routines from scratch, and working in a very small team; however, Miss. Imbriano has done so with tenacity and resilience, and above all a sheer determination that the children in her care deserve the very best.

"We, the parents, staff, children and the local community, are extremely proud of Miss. Imbriano's achievement and wish her every success in the final round of this national competition."

Judges from the teaching awards are spending the day in the school this morning (9th May).

They will be speaking to students, parents and staff as they make their important decision about who is crowned 'winner' for 2018.
