Mix96 celebrates Local Radio Day

Mix 96 Studio

5:51am 25th May 2018

Today, we're joining over 100 other radio stations in celebrating what it means to be a local radio station.

Mix96 has been serving Aylesbury Vale since 1994, bringing you local news, helping charities, community events and so much more.

So today, we are a part of Local Radio Day, celebrating what we do every single day.

Our MP David Lidington says he sees real power in what proper local radio can achieve:

"I know from whenever I appear on Mix, I get feedback from constituents and get the chance to talk about some local issues,

"But also, I will always advise a charity or good cause in Aylesbury or the villages, who is wanting to promote their case to talk to you."

We asked Matt Hancock, Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport what he thinks of the initiative:

Mix96 is a part of the UKRD Group, who started LRD two years ago.

Dave Coull, UKRD’s Group Content Director, told us what it means to be a truly local station:

“Proper local radio is special and its ability to connect, reflect and be at the centre of the community it serves is unrivalled.

"Therefore, it’s only appropriate that those working in, and those that listen to, proper local radio are the given the opportunity to share in and celebrate their passion for it and the areas it broadcasts to."
