EXCLUSIVE: Children exploited to sell drugs in Aylesbury

Young children are being exploited to sell drugs in Aylesbury, Mix96 can exclusively reveal this morning.

The issue is referred to as County Lines and police are seeing more of it in the town.

Vulnerable young people are being trafficked in and out of Aylesbury to sell drugs here and elsewhere in the country.

We spoke to Aylesbury Commander Tim Metcalfe, who told us about the extent of the problem:

"We're seeing young people being exploited by drug dealers and being compelled to sell drugs.

"We're seeing them being moved round the country to sell drugs in other places and indeed and young people being brought in to Aylesbury to sell drugs on behalf of dealers from other parts of the country."

Drug dealing & the issues surrounding it are a big priority for TVP

He also told us the police arrested 22 people for dealing drugs on Southcourt in one week alone.

Exploitation is an issue that Thame Valley Police have been tackling with their Hidden Harm campaign.

Tim told us what to look our for you if you're concerned a young person is involved:

"Changes in behaviour is a big one.

"Withdrawal, missing school and education.

"Large amounts of money suddenly becoming available.

"Gifts, sometimes, from older members of the drug market and traders.

"It's a very nasty and cynical way of exploiting children."

They also want people to report suspicious behaviour to them by 101 or if you want to remain anonymous you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
