Buckingham United gift team shirts to African namesakes

Buckingham United have recycled their old kit by sending it out to their namesake team in The Gambia.

The unlikely friendship started up on social media, after an apparently random 'like' on the club's FaceBook page by Muhammed B. Sarr. He went on to comment on lots of posts, and curiosity got the better of the Bucks team and they asked him who he was.

It turned out the two clubs were both called Buckingham United - one after the Bucks town they're from, and one after the Street where they play their matches - the second of whom Muhammad played for.

The friendship blossomed, then at the end of the 2017 season, Buckingham United (uk) changed their kit sponsors and the idea dawned on them to donate them to the Gambian side.

More than a year later, after problems at the local airport, they finally turned up, with the Gambian team tweeting "a very big thank you".
