Commuter joy as Stoke Hammond Bypass reopens

The biggest road resurfacing project in Buckinghamshire for several years has been completed.

The Stoke Hammond Bypass, between Wing and Milton Keynes, has been closed for eight weeks.

But the five mile stretch is now open at a cost of £4.5 million pounds.

Mark Shaw, Buckinghamshire County Council Deputy Leader and Transport Cabinet Member, says the programme has been an enormous logistical and technical engineering project, and apologised last week for the slight delay;

"... there was a hiccup in the regular supply of surfacing material, which means we'll be a little later with painting road markings and installing reflective studs."

"It's in the interests of everyone's safety that we reopen a little later than planned, and I apologise for any inconvenience."

Work on the bypass began on August 13.
