A former Catholic Priest in Aylesbury, charged with historic child sex offences, is in court today.

Father Francis McDermott was priest at Our Lady of Lourdes church in Bedgrove from 1991 to 2005.

He's been charged with 20 sex offences against six victims, all under 16 at the time.

Now living on Atlantic Way, Westwood Ho in Biddeford, Devon, the 75 year old faces historic charges which are alleged to have happened between 1971 and 1978 in Wycombe and Norwich

The charges, against six victims under 16 include rape and indecent assault.

Here's the full list of charges Francis McDermott faces.

He's due to appear at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court today.

Church Response

The Diocese of Northampton, which includes Aylesbury, confirmed they were aware of the charges.

The Right Reverend Peter Doyle, Bishop of Northampton, said the Diocese would continue to co-operate fully with the Court proceedings.

He also said the safeguarding of children and adults at risk is of paramount importance to the Catholic Church.

"As in all such cases, our thoughts and prayers are with those hurt by abuse in all forms."

Francis McDermott retired from active ministry in 2005.
