Community contact key for new Bucks council, says MP

Aylesbury's MP says Buckinghamshire's new council must put communities first.

David Lidington says services shouldn't really change, when the new authority comes in in 2020.

But with one big authority across the county, he says there needs to be a point of contact:

"Just got a few miles outside of Aylesbury and go to Wendover and the way Wendover thinks of itself is very distinct from Aylesbury.

"Go to Princes Risborough and it's a different story again.

"Different places have slightly different outlooks and the way the new council works should reflect that."

David added that the differences shouldn't necessarily be seen by any of us using services:

"It should different in the back office, the administration, the management, perhaps the signage.

"But people receiving social services, working in schools, having their bins collected, I hope and believe they won't see a difference."

David also told us elections planned for next year will be held off until the new council arrives.
