Aylesbury filmmaker nominated for national award

A filmmaker from Aylesbury has been nominated for a National Film Award.

Aaron Sayers' documentary has some tough competition, he's up against David Attenborough's Dynasties and BROS for their 'After the screaming stops' documentary.

His film 'Chosen Men' tells the story of the challenged modern day soldiers face coming back to civilisation.

A revealing exploration of transition and life after service; celebrating the pride shared within the veteran community and the bond of brothers held between those who served together on the front line.

Director, Aaron Sayers, from Aylesbury

It's something Aaron knows all too well having served himself:

“It has been an incredible journey working on the film these past three years. Returning to my military roots to tell the stories of veteran soldiers that I served alongside has been inspiring.

"The fair treatment of veterans is an area I feel strongly about, and one that I hope we have explored and presented fittingly to champion the voice of veterans around the world and particularly in the UK.

"Making the transition from military life back to life as a civilian is often one of the most difficult changes a veteran will go through in their life.

"Chosen Men tells this important story that has been ignored in popular media and brings the Veteran’s voice to the big screen.

"It celebrates the selfless sacrifice soldiers make dedicating their lives to protect their Country and I hope will help to raise awareness of important issues faced by the Veteran community and highlight that a Soldier’s story does not end on the battlefield."

The film provides a platform for the Veteran’s voice to be heard whilst holding to account those that have failed proud servicemen and women of the UK Armed Forces.

With unprecedented access, Chosen Men provides insight into the difficulties Soldiers face creating a new identity for themselves once their military career is over and they re-join society.

The veteran community is estimated at 2.6 million, residing in the UK and it is their voice that Chosen Men seeks to represent.

Featuring Best Selling Author and former SAS Hero Andy McNab with charity involvement from Help for Heroes, The Invictus Games Foundation and the UK Veterans – One Voice campaign.
