Petition against new road off A41 discussed by BCC

A petition that has over 400 signatures against building a road off the A41, is being discussed by Buckinghamshire County Council today (11th Feb).

Akeman Way, a backwater just off Tring Road, might be connected to Broughton Lane under new plans.

People living on the road are worried it will become an extended rat run and started a petition.

We have spoke to Yvonne and Peter Manning who live on the street and are appalled by the plans:

"It's frightening, it's horrendous.

"I don't understand how they can be doing things like that.

"And our little oasis of tranquillity off of this horrendous road, is to dump as much traffic off of that road onto our little side road."

Petitioners originally presented these notes to Buckinghamshire County Council:

"We, the undersigned residents of Broughton Pastures Aylesbury strongly object to the loss of amenity which will result from the proposed closure of our direct access to A41 at the Bedgrove Junction.

"The bus route and access to two schools are also affected.

"The diversion to a less convenient route via Broughton Lane is not acceptable, therefore, the Council should concentrate on completing the alternative route via the Eastern and Stocklake link roads, thus reducing the pressure on Tring Road and the need for mitigation measures there.

"In addition, it will enable action to be taken to reduce rat-running on Broughton Lane."
