All the trophies from a Buckinghamshire cricket club have been stolen.

Chearsley Cricket Club was broken into on Friday night and all the cups, which are a huge part of the club's heritage, were taken.

The club are pleading with the thieves to return them.

Thieves broke into the pavilion and among the items taken were the entire contents of the club trophy cabinet.

Club Chairman Ian Houseman said:

"Our membership is absolutely devastated by last week's events, as we put the finishing touches to our preparations for the 2019 season.

"If the break in wasn't bad enough on its own, the theft of all our club trophies is absolutely heartbreaking. These cups, including my own Chairman's Cup, are of little commercial value but are a major part of our club's proud heritage. For our members they represent our 'crown jewels'.

"We would urge those who took them to show a little compassion and decency by returning them to us. This could be done anonymously by leaving them by the entrance gate to the ground."

Chearsley Cricket Club, founded in 1922, was reborn in its current ground on the Winchendon Road just outside the village in 1990.

In addition to fielding two teams in the Cherwell League, the club has developed a flourishing Juniors section, whose membership of around 90 youngsters includes over 40 girls.
