A main road in Aylesbury has been closed this lunchtime (Mon).

There has been an accident on Gatehouse Road, just near the Oxford Road roundabout.

The air ambulance also attended the scene.

Police have closed the road as of 1.18pm - between the Hen & Chickens roundabout and Bicester Road.

UPDATE at 2:47pm: The road is now clear

We've also been updated by the South Central Ambulance Service who have told us a cyclist has been taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital after being hit by a car.

A spokesperson said:

"We were called today at 12:30 to Gatehouse Road to an incident where a cyclist was hit by a car.

"We sent to the scene an ambulance officer, ambulance crew and the Thames Valley Air Ambulance.

"They were all treating one male patient in his 40s for serious injuries.

"Following treatment at the scene by all our crews that patient was taken by land ambulance to the John Radcliffe Hospital."
