'Walking the line of HS2' including through Aylesbury Vale.

Matt Bishop - HS2 walk

Published by Mix96 News at 8:01am 22nd April 2019.

Matthew Gibson and his 72 year old mother are walking the route of HS2.

They set off this morning from Cubbington near Leamington Spa and are hoping to bring attention to the damage HS2 will cause to both individuals and the environment.

Matthew Bishop said:

"We want to try and unite the different groups along the way and to keep this issue in the forefront of the public eye."

A local film maker will be documenting the walk and they're asking people who live along the route to join them and share their stories.

Matthew added:

"This is just a classic case of a corporate entity, a corporate government just bulldozing literally through the lives of ordinary people without really thinking about what they're doing."

"There is no case for HS2 to cause this much disruption to save 20 minutes"

"People don't believe anymore they have political power. Most the people I speak to don't believe they can make a difference they just feel like the government can do what they want and there is nothing anybody can do about it. If we all believe that nothing in history would have ever changed."

"If you look through the history books people walking is the last act of democratic rights that ordinary people have."

If you look at the history of the civil rights movement and the history of the suffragettes in the end all of those people took to road and they walked to show their feelings."

AVDC could ask government to halt HS2 work

Anyone can join the walk at any point and you can follow their progress on Matthew's Facebook Page.

He will be updating the page everyday with how they are getting on and the planned journey for the day so you can get involved.
