£2.6m improvement plan for busy Aylesbury road

Published by Dan Gooding at 5:47am 24th June 2019.

One of Aylesbury's most-congested roads should move more easily, with a £2.6 million improvement project.

Plans for Oxford Road include new footpaths and updated traffic lights, as well as wider junctions.

We will get a say when the County Council runs a consultation, starting on 12th July.

BCC's website says the proposals should:

  • improve journey time reliability
  • ease congestion
  • encourage increased sustainable travel
  • improve air quality

Funding has come from the government and developer cash.

One issue is the junctions along the route and these will be looked at:

  • Aylesbury College - feasibility work to identify access options.
  • A418/A41 roundabout - design and testing for options at the roundabout.
  • A418/Fowler Road/Churchill Avenue crossroads - design and testing to improve the crossroads. This includes widening and extending filter lanes to improve access onto the A418 and the capacity of the junction.

Traffic signals could be linked together along this stretch, to improve traffic flow, whilst CCTV will also be used to monitor traffic.

Cycling, walking and bus infrastructure will also be improved, including new footpaths around the Ellen Road roundabout.

There will also be a public exhibition of the plans at Aylesbury College on 18th July.
