Aylesbury changes its name to honour England’s top scorer Ellen White!

Mix96 have been celebrating the fact that England’s top scorer is from Aylesbury!

We have changed the name of the town to Ellesbury today, coinciding with England’s semi-final game with the USA.

Ellen White has already scored 5 goals during the campaign and could win the Golden Boot – so Mix96 thought she should be celebrated back in her home town of Aylesbury.

As well as changing the signs we’ve also sung our own World Cup song especially for Ellen!

Breakfast presenter Ben Moseby is behind the lyrics:

“Aylesbury’s got statues of David Bowie, Ronnie Barker and Benjamin Disraeli and we wanted to honour Ellen White with a statue.

“Unfortunately, statues are apparently very expensive and take a long time to build so we sang and danced around in the street instead.

“It’s no Three Lions or Vindaloo, but we had fun and we genuinely want to show our support for Ellen and the rest of the England team.”

Head of Digital Chris Maskery is the man behind the idea:

“We’ve followed Ellen’s career over the years and she’s been into the station a few times for interviews.

“Aylesbury could soon be the home of the World Cup’s top scorer – that’s definitely something worth celebrating.

“She’s already turned on the town’s Christmas lights and been given the Freedom of Aylesbury, but I imagine a song and video from a local radio station is all she’s ever wanted!”

Come on England!
