Popular pub in Aston Clinton to be turned into homes

Even after over 500 objections, a planning application to turn a popular Aston Clinton pub into houses has been approved.

The plans for The Rothschild Arms, on Weston Road, include turning the building into two terrace houses.

While the pub's parking opposite will be turned into three terrace houses.

Earlier this month, AVDC refused the application for multiple reasons including:

  1. Its design and layout would would result in an unacceptable form of development
  2. It would fail to contribute to the overall quality of the area
  3. Would be out of character for this part of Weston Road
  4. It would harm the character and appearance of the streetscene
  5. The development goes against policies in the Aston Clinton Neighbourhood Plan.

It's the second planning application that has been refused by AVDC for the pub.

In December 2017, slightly different proposals were put forward.

But, this time it went to appeal and the Planning Inspectorate has approved it because it will add to the character of the area.

There are certain conditions though, including:

  • Proposed tree planting and landscaping must be approved by the Local Planning Authority
  • A sustainable urban drainage scheme needs to be approved
  • No extensions without permission
