Aylesbury Prison one of 16 given lowest possible rating

Published by Dan Gooding at 12:00pm 25th July 2019.
Aylesbury Prison is one of 16 in the UK given the lowest-possible performance rating.
The Young Offenders Institute saw 118 assaults in just the first three months of the year, 34 of those on staff.
The MoJ gave the prison a score of 1 - the lowest since 2011.
2018 saw the highest ever number of assaults at the site on Bierton Road, with 544.
The number has been steadily increasing over the past few years.
This report doesn't give the YOI many positives, but it does score highly on:
- getting drug testing done
- the quality of prison life
- control/restraint training
- the use of an incident reporting system
Other prisons rated 1 by the MoJ are:
- Bedford
- Birmingham
- Bristol
- Chelmsford
- Feltham
- Liverpool
- Mount
- Nottingham
- Onley
- Pentonville
- Portland
- Rochester
- Wandsworth
- Winchester
- Wormwood Scrubs
