Public transport improvements needed to make Aylesbury greener

Aylesbury is getting greener, but there is more work to do, according to our MP.

We've been asking David Lidington about Haddenham and Buckingham's 'climate emergency' stances and what can be done elsewhere.

He says he's been catching up with Arriva, who run several bus routes here:

"Something like 40% of their customers are young.

"So there are some interesting signs there that, actually, good bus routes and planning can actually alleviate some of the traffic problems."

David told us that Arriva are planning to bring more new buses onto routes next year, many of which will be low or zero emissions.

Mr. Lidington says public transport needs to improve

He added:

"We need to have a programme in place to see public transport shift to more environmentally-friendly ways of operating and take advantage of new technology.

"When you look at the UK, it has a very good track record compared to other advanced countries, but what we can't do is be complacent."

The MP said that new homes being built here need to be as eco-friendly as possible and that we all have a responsibility to make lifestyle changes to become greener.
