Aylesbury charity in more demand than ever this summer

More food is being given out to people in Aylesbury this summer than ever before.

Last month Aylesbury Foodbank saw their demand increase massively.

In fact, the charity actually gave out more food than they had coming in from donations.

The charity have lots of crates that aren't quite as full as these at the minute

Heather-Joy Garrett is the Operations Manager:

"We find that we get less donations across the summer.

"Demand is shooting up this year, particularly because of Universal Credit.

"So, we're finding it very difficult.

"More food is actually going out of our warehouse than is now being donated on a monthly basis."

Heather-Joy told us how busy July was for them:

"In July it was definitely over one and a half tonnes, probably nearer two tonnes.

"But, all that came in was less than one and a half tonnes."

They had to move to a bigger premise last year because the demand has increased so much

In the summer months they also give out more products for children because they won't be getting their school meals during the holidays.

The charity often includes more crisps, squash and even freezer pots in their family boxes.

They desperately need donations of certain products including:

  • Tinned meat
  • Tinned vegetables
  • Tinned tomatoes
  • Tinned fruit
  • Fruit juice
  • Sponge puddings
  • Tinned custard
  • Tinned rice puddings
  • Chocolate
  • Cereal.

You can donate these products to any of the following places:

  • Aylesbury Foodbank warehouse, 44 Rabans Close
  • St Mary's Church, Aylesbury
  • Holy Trinity Church, Walton Street
  • St Peters Church, Quarrendon
  • Alexander & Co, Buckingham Street
  • Waitrose
  • McGrumpy & Snuffles, Duck Farm Court.
