Unemployment rates remain low in Aylesbury

Unemployment rates remain steady in Aylesbury, according to the latest figures.

Just under 3% of the population here weren't in work from April 2018 to March this year.

Last month 1,100 people claimed benefits, a slight rise of 0.4% year on year.

But, over the last five years there has been a 37% reduction in the amount of young people aged 18-24-years-old claiming benefits.

This is something Emma Duthie, an Employer Adviser Manager in Buckinghamshire, is proud of but she says there is more work to be done:

"One of my key focuses is women, people with health conditions and disabilities.

"But, also Black, Asian and Ethnic minorities.

"Although the figures are improved, with a 32% uplift in success to employment, we can do more."

She also told us Aylesbury isn't a worry:

"The unemployment rate is still steady, at 3.9% generally.

"So, for us the Aylesbury area particularly there is no cause for concern.

"What we want to do though is get more people into work."

There is lots going on at the Aylesbury Job Centre to motivate people to get into work, including a mentoring scheme with an employer for young people.
