'Still a market' for new flats in Aylesbury

Published by Dan Gooding at 5:37am 12th September 2019.

With some new flats sitting empty for around a year in Aylesbury, why are more being built?

We have asked AVDC about some of the developments which don't seem to be selling, as more go on sale.

For example, the new flats built on the corner of Buckingham Road, built around a year ago, sit mostly empty with eight for sale at the moment.

Some are priced at over £300,000 for a two bedroom flat.

We contacted the agent for comment in that case, but have not had a response.

But more apartments are appearing all the time, either new-builds or converted office spaces.

At the time of writing, there are 199 listings for flats for sale on RightMove, many falling into the above categories.

House keys - planning

So are these all needed when so many are taking time to sell?

AVDC responded to our questions.

Cllr Carole Paternoster, Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning and Infrastructure, told us:

"There are a number of different new build flat developments which have come on to the market in recent months in Aylesbury, all of which are selling. For example, The Exchange, The Arc on Exchange Street, and the courtyard-setting development on Oxford Road.

"We've also received applications for further new build flat developments (the Oxford House site, for instance), so there is obviously still a market for new build flats in Aylesbury. These new developments will give added choice and competition for purchasers.

"The plans for old County Hall are still in outline stage only, and that element is being led by Buckinghamshire County Council.

"Those proposals, though, are part of a wider regeneration of the town centre, and market conditions will be looked at as part of the overall decision on how and when to bring any detailed proposals forward at this site."
