Why people using foodbanks in Aylesbury need your help

Published by the Mix96 News Team at 5:37am 12th September 2019.

As part of our Tonne of Tins appeal, we've been speaking to the people who really need our help.

Foodbanks in Aylesbury not only give out food but help people in Aylesbury get their lives back on track.

This anonymous user of foodbanks told us how they helped him:

While the response has been great to our Tonne of Tins campaign, we still need more donations.

To reach our target we need around 2,500 tins to make sure people in Aylesbury have food on their table every day.

We're sharing just a few of the stories from people who have used foodbanks, to show just how vital they are.

Our local food banks provide food to people in food crisis but only provide supplies to those who have proven their genuine need and who are being helped by an organisation to overcome that crisis.

They really do turn people's lives around and this woman has been using the foodbanks for over two years:

We also recently reported that for the first time ever Aylesbury Foodbank gave out more food than was donated to them.

So, how can you help?

It's really easy to help, all you need to do is deliver your donation, however big, to Mix96.  The address is Mix96, 11 Bourbon Street, Aylesbury, Bucks HP22 2PZ between 6am and 6pm weekdays and 8am-midday at the weekends.   We'll weigh your donation to add it to our total.

Can I donate anywhere else?

Yes!  Our friends at Perrys are supporting the appeal - you can take your donations there too: Bicester Road, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, HP19 8BY.

What should I donate?

All of our food banks will accept any long life products.  All tinned goods fall in to this category.  Some of the most in demand foods include:-

  • Tinned Fruit
  • Tinned Meat
  • Tinned Vegetables
  • Sponge Puddings
  • Rice Pudding
  • Custard

Where will the food go?

We're working with two food banks and your donations will be split between them.  The food banks that we're supporting are Aylesbury Foodbank (run by the Trussel Trust) and Aylesbury Vineyard Storehouse (partnered with Aylesbury Vineyard Church).

We are collecting until next Friday (20th Sep).
